media73 were approached by Monitise a Mobile Banking and Blackberry Application developer, they had seen some of the work we had created for Medserve which was a medical company who also wanted to create some motion graphics. It was from seeing the work I had produced that they decided Motion Graphics were a great alternative to live action video. While Video is a very powerful medium for sales and promotion, Motion Graphics can take the lead when used in an interesting and engaging way.

TheBrief
The brief was to make a powerpoint slide presentation more engaging for a developers conference, the animation was to be used on LCD and plasma screens that would be present at the show, it would also need to loop. We knew that our experience in Motion Graphics could bring this to life in an exciting and interesting way. We received a brief that had basic bullet points on with titles and nothing more, media73 had a creative open brief. This is a pure joy but also a little worrying as how we envisage a brief or creative interpretation may be different from our clients. The deadline was short.. very short, 8 days and I worked a huge amount of hours to meet that deadline. Some elements such as the blackberry being launched into space came to me literally as I read the brief.

How I work
I am sure other creative types work the same way, as I am reading a brief, images and ideas would manifest them self instantly, and I would carry these over to the animation, other times I would start with an idea and just as I begin something else jumps into my head and I think “yeah cool” then it’s off to source imagery and other elements. There were a couple of images that did not make the grade, the first image is of a stack of Gold this was originally with a caveman that was in the client’s colours, its a shames the client did not want it, I felt it added a little charm.

I created the project in Apple Motion and After Effects, I would of liked to of added audio fx and a sound track but as this was for a non audio scenario it did not make much sense. The client was blown away with what media73 created in such a short time with the only external help coming from somebody providing me a full 3d render of the Blackberry Storm phone. We will be working closely with Monities again in the future to provide them with cutting edge Video and Motion Graphics.

Intense, challenging and creative, and that is just the sort of brief I relish.
